I'm doing a "project" called Incidental Pictures that I will only be posting on my tumblr. It consists of photographs I take with my phone. All too frequently, I do not have a real camera on me but I can't seem to let the moment go by. It's more a diary than anything else. You can check it out here.

This is my cousin. She is so cute—taller than me, like most of cousin now, but still cute. She's a round face with huge eyes. She looks like a Tim Burton drawing - so obviously, I love it. Going with the Time Burton theme, I made this look like film stills, as I do most of my work. I also wanted to play around with her camera.

I didn't know Ava was coming over until 10 minutes before she was here. We didn't really do much but I found that my mother had put Ma Tante's bed in the empty part of the basement and the light from the window fell very nicely on it.

This is one of the rare times when Ava wanted to shoot so I threw these images together. I think she got a boost of confidence because Su and Eliza told her she was famous in New York and that she will one day be a real model. I didn't really like her outfit so I hid it or underexposed it. Her hair was straight, which was weird - I am so accustomed to working with her curls and the implications that come along with them. The straight hair made her look older and it gives the images an uncomfortable feeling. I love how she acts in front of the camera - the dead eyes she gives me, I love it.

These are some photos I took while my mother was mowing the lawn. The light was so beautiful. I took these with my phone for I couldn't find my camera but more importantly I wanted a wider angle and my phone's camera has more megapixels than my DSLR. The light was so beautiful I could not resist....

These are just nothing - I took the first one because I noticed some one's footprint in the pollen in the driveway. I don't know whose footprint that is, it kind of looks like mind but I cannot remember stepping there. The picture of Mary I took because she looked like she was bright white in all the dark green leaves.

Ava showed up at my house today. Her mother had an appointment with mine so this was an impromptu shoot we did. luckily for me, the light was beautiful today. She pretty much just ran around my yard and threw herself on the ground randomly, I just took a picture when she landed....expect for the tree ones.
Today, Rita remarked, "Aren't these Ava pictures getting old?" They certainly aren't for me. I hope to make a book from them some day. She looks so much older now than the first photos I took of her and I want to keep going with her until she won't let me or I get bored or it fizzles out, I do not feel as though we have reached that point yet though, thankfully. I have two rolls of B&W film I plan to use some time next week on her.
....imagine if I had a good camera.
Speaking of Ava based projects, Courtney made an animatic for her video. Check it out.

These are some random photos I took after being home for a day. I haven't been here in a while so it's new for me again - I walked out of the movies yesterday and I could hear the bugs and frogs and trees rustling and it was so strange, never mind trying to sleep in the ringing silence interrupted only by a whippoorwill.
They are not really good but I was just having fun outside before it gets too hot.

Are you guys sick of Ava yet?
These are stills from the video I took. I couldn't get the exposure right but it's doesn't really matter. My idea started out to be that creepy doll theme you can see, but them she went into the chicken coop and started playing with the eggs in a very strange way - as though she'd never really played with eggs before and judging by her mom's response to them, it is a possibility that she hasn't so I may switch it to a humpy dumpy theme, especially since she loved breaking them. Also, it's weird, but I love eggs and photographing them - I've made up symbolic meanings for them too - I looked it up and what I thought they symbolized is not what they actually symbolize. I was strangely sad to watch her break them and I didn't want her to show the hens because it would make them sad. Art school has made me weird. In reality, I have no idea how long they've been in there and considering how infrequently my dad checks the coop, they were probably for a long time so there is a good possibility they had gone bad any way. Either way, the video I took of her smash three of them and contemplating saving the last one before smashing (quite violently) it might work.

These are photos I got out of Ava. I went with her to do a movie for a class assignment so, these still images are just side notes. I had her in all black for the video but it goes with the light and the creepy setting. It's like she's going to a funeral or something - maybe the funeral for her egg friends. She cried a lot today and I tried to get a photo of it, but she really didn't want me to and kept running away...these are quite all over the place, and again - jpegs, so weird. And, again, these are very heavily influenced by Hopper.

These are randoms from today. I shot with Ava, who was cripplingly tired, so we didn't get much done and, unfortunately, I don't think she had much fun but she got to smash eggs and got two free ring pops. I accidentally shot them all in jpegs, so they look really weird. I was also using high f-stops which is unlike me so they're not my usual style, but the lighting was perfect today - I pretty bummed about Ava not being down for it today - but, you get what you get when working with kids, right?

Ava wanted to shoot again, but I think by 'take more pictures' she meant, 'make fairy houses,' so we did both. We shot at her house and went back to mine to make fairy houses, well a fairy house.
The coke one is for seminar class where we had to photograph 'stubborn.' I'm stubborn when it comes to coke. "Is pepsi okay?" No. So, I had her do that at Hannaford. Like, her parents are making her buy pepsi but she wants to get coke. Also, the outfit I put her in is badass. I tried to express how awesome it was to her without using the term 'badass.' I failed - I failed in that I didn't properly explain it, not that I used the term badass in conversation with a six-year-old. But, I mean, the leather jacket, the beaded tie on her shirt, the leopard flats - it's so Emma-does-badass.
I don't know why I like the blurry last one, but I think it's fitting with the look on her face - like, her thoughts would be blurry if we knew them.
Ava is my favorite model...and she knows that.
