"Listen to me," said the demon as he placed his hand upon my head. "There is a spot on this accursed earth which thou hast never yet held it, it must have been in one of those vigorous dreams which come like Simoon upon the brain of the sleeper who hath lain down to sleep among the forbidden sunbeams."
And the lilies sighed one unto the other in the solemnity of their desolation.
I looked upwards, and there stood a figure upon the summit of the rock. The outline of the figure were indistinct -- but features of a deity...and, oh! they were more beautiful than the airy dreams which hovered above the souls of the daughters of Delos.
Then I cursed the elements with the curse of tumult; and frightful tempest gathered in the heaven where before there had been no wind -- and I looked upon the characters of the rock and the characters were SILENCE.
And I could not laugh with the demon, and he cursed me because I could not laugh.
This was an assignment for my seminar class. We had to visualize a short story. I did Poe's Silence: A Dream. I seem to have always favored the macabre and I find that quite evident in these. I like shooting Leah in a creepy manner and I imported her all the way from NH for this shoot. I am not sure if these photos are what I exactly what I wanted but I was going for a cinematic feel and I believe that was successful.
